Pure Vibes, a vital community centre in Whitfield, Glossop, was closed by Derbyshire County Council a few months ago, displacing numerous groups including the Food Club
Gerry Dominey, Treasurer of People of Whitfield, shares an update on the community's efforts to purchase and reopen the center.
"The group has successfully negotiated to buy the building and is working through legal processes, aiming to reopen in 2025. A crowdfunding campaign for £7,000 has been launched to cover legal fees for all parties involved, including Derbyshire County Council"
"While the building's structure is secure, plans for improvements include updating to LED lighting to reduce energy costs by approximately half. Once the purchase is complete, the group intends to apply for grants to fund further renovations."
This initiative demonstrates the power of community action. Those interested in supporting the reopening efforts can contact the Glossop Chronicle at community@notreallyheremedia.com, who will forward details to the organisers
