Record Breaking Performances at Wormstones Fell Race 2025

Glossop's fell running community turned out in force on Tuesday (Dec 31) for the annual Wormstones Fell Race.

Glossop's fell running community turned out in force on Tuesday (Dec 31) for the annual Wormstones Fell Race, hosted by Glossop Fell Races. A record number of runners braved the challenging course on New Year’s Eve and fortunately the forecasted heavy rain and strong winds held off until later in the evening.

Tom Spencer of Dark Peak Fell Runners took first place in the men's category in an incredible time of 31 minutes and 55 seconds - a new course record!  Abbie Pearce of Steel City Striders claimed the first female place, also setting a new women’s course record with a time of 39 minutes and 35 seconds.

On the start line, runners gathered to honour the memory of Ian Bennett, a much loved and seasoned fell runner who passed away in November 2024. Ian was well known to the fell running community, both as an athlete and a marshal at local races. The runners paid tribute with a minute’s applause.

The Wormstones Fell Race continues to grow in popularity each year, bringing together athletes to tackle the tough course.
