Network Rail has agreed to replant an area near to the track on Howard Street in Glossop, after safety work meant the mature trees had to be removed.
Residents had raised concerns after a large number of contractors suddenly appeared on site to clear all the vegetation.
Now after an intervention by local councillor Damian Greenhalgh, they have been given assurances that the area will be replanted.
Cllr Greenhalgh said: “The original plan was to remove all tree, circa 20 of them.
“After my intervention Network Rail have kindly agreed to try and leave any smaller trees in place if possible and to replace some with Hawthorn trees given the screening the trees provide for residents as well as the biodiversity benefits.”
Henry Hughes, a Community Relations Executive for Network Rail, confirmed that in addition to the replanting the low-lying vegetation on the site can also be left in place.
He said usually they would not replant but due to the nature of the work, and as a goodwill gesture, they would in this case.
The tree removal work was part of safety measures being undertaken by Network Rail to ensure the trees cannot cause damage to structures such as retaining walls.
