Three people hospitalised after serious collision

Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision on Glossop Road, between Gamesley and Charlesworth.

It happened just before 4pm on Saturday afternoon (15 May). 

Emergency services rushed to the scene and an air ambulance landed close to the bridge. A large police presence was witnessed. 

A Peugeot car and a small Ford van were seen badly damaged within the police cordon. 

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "Three patients were taken to hospital with major trauma-related injuries following a collision between a car and van. A number of others were treated at the scene." 

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “We were alerted by North West Ambulance Service to a collision involving a van and a car on Glossop Road, Charlesworth, just before 4pm. 

“The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the scene and the air ambulance was called.

“A number of people suffered injuries, but they are not thought to be life changing or threatening.

“The road was reopened just before 9pm.” 

The air ambulance was seen leaving the scene shortly before 7pm, but the road remained closed to allow investigative work to be carried out.

It was coned off from the junction with Cottage Lane to Charlesworth village. 

The 341 bus was diverted via Hollingworth between Mottram and Glossop as a result.
