Rock n’ Coal: Redgate Coal Race hits Padfield

The annual Padfield Coal Race took place along Redgate on Sunday September 8, bringing the community together for another thrilling day of racing and fundraising.

More than 100 residents came out to support the participants, affectionately referred to as ‘Coal Hardy’ runners, as they tackled the steep, challenging Redgate Hill.

The race, which draws competitors of all ages, from the tiny ‘minors’ to the strong-willed ‘majors,’ raises essential funds for the Padfield community each year. As always, the dedicated volunteers ensured the event ran smoothly, much to the delight of all involved.

This year’s top finishers in the women’s category were Sarah Flint, Egle Bates, and Eva Schofield, while the men’s category was led by Lee Broadbent, 2023 winner James Fishlock, and Connor Mineran. CrossFit Glossop took home the team win.
