Round Table continue its support of good local causes

Glossop and District Round Table has been busy spearheading a campaign to raise money for local causes. 

Of course, last year's annual bonfire and fireworks display in Manor Park - which is normally enjoyed by thousands of people and raises thousands of pounds for charities - had to be cancelled due to Covid. 

But the Round Table moved to ensure local groups won't miss out on badly-needed funds, by setting up JustGiving pages and spreading the word far and wide. 

With the help of generous donations from kind-hearted residents and businesses, they managed to raise £280 for The Bureau in Glossop - which provides a range of community services to improve the wellbeing of adults in Glossopdale. 

Last weekend, Round Table co-chairman Ed Siddall presented a cheque to The Bureau's Voluntary and Community Manager Damien Greenhalgh outside its Henry Street hub. 

Damien said: "We're really grateful to the lovely people of Glossop for answering the call. Big thinks to those at Glossop Roundtable for organising. The money will be put to good use supporting our Volunteer Car Scheme which takes people to medical and hospital appointments".

Round Table has also been crowdfunding to support Hyde-based Sandwich Angels - a group of volunteers who help the homeless and hungry of Tameside and wider Greater Manchester. One of them is honorary Round Table member David Oldham. 

They aimed to raise £100 and Stepping Stones Property Management on High Street East stepped forward to donate the full amount - which will fund some food parcels for the community.  

Ed said: "I would like to thanks Stepping Stones Glossop and the people of Glossop for donating to these fantastic causes. We will be launching some more JustGiving pages to support other local good causes soon that missed out on last year's Bonfire. I would also like to thank Glossop Fish Bar for their £50 donation to the Bureau."
