One of the founder members of the Friends of Manor Park committee has sadly passed away.
Valerie Bowden was passionate about Manor Park and loved the natural world.
Val grew up in Salford and moved to Glossop to be nearer her parents and her sister Jean.
She loved animals and enjoyed nothing more than taking her dogs Max, and then Roxy, for a stroll around the park.
She even had a robin who would come and eat out of her hand!
Val helped campaign against the plans to keep all dogs on lead in public parks in the High Peak, and from this Good Glossop Dogs community group was formed.
The Friends of Manor Park committee was formed more than 18 years ago, and Val was an active member for all those years, she wanted everyone to enjoy the beautiful park.
Val, 79, was one of the first to volunteer her time to help with planting or litter picking. She helped organise many fundraising events and was often seen with her sister, Jean, in the refreshment tent making hot dogs and serving drinks and cakes.
Val had a large extended family who she was immensely proud of, and she enjoyed taking them to Manor Park. She will be sadly missed by her family and the many friends she made in Glossop.
She died on 4 February.
