Santa fun-run-draisers go the extra mile for Blythe House

More than 500 runners dressed as Santa raised £11,000 for Blythe House Hospice at the annual Jingle Bell Jog in Buxton on Sunday.

The main event of the fun run saw hundreds of fundraisers tackle the 5k course, which snaked around the pathways of the town’s Pavilion Gardens.

A shorter children’s course also attracted dozens of participants.

“We’ve had an amazing turnout considering the weather,” said Blythe House’s Marketing and Communications Officer, Poppie Staden. “It was pouring it down this morning, but it’s gone really well and everyone’s got a big smile on their face.

“About 450 people signed up for the main 5k run, with about 80 for the 700 metre one. And then all the family and friends come out to support them.

“We’ve raised over £11,000 and counting, which is just amazing for the hospice.

“We provide tailored care to patients and their families across North Derbyshire who have a life-limiting illness, so things like this help to bring a bit of joy and everyone’s here for such an amazing cause.

“We all do what we do because we love it, and we want to help as many people as possible.”

Next year’s Jingle Bell Jog takes place on Sunday December 5, with £10 super early bird entries open until December 15 2024, before registrations reopen in September 2025.

The organisers will provide each runner a Santa outfit and beard.
