Children missing their school meals have been getting regular packed lunches thanks to a church and people partnership.
Carmel Church, in conjunction with Hadfield Coming Together, served 108 packed meals to children from Hadfield, Padfield and Tintwistle last Wednesday afternoon and 35 on Thursday.
By Friday, a total of 1,077 free lunches - a figure Cllr Ollie Cross described as amazing - had been served over the past eight weeks.

Ollie, who regularly does a shift with the team at Carmel, said: “A very special thank you must go to Gill, Jac, Angie, Faith and Christine for their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work.
“It has been a proper team effort by all involved.
“I’m thrilled to say that the feedback from local families this project has helped out has been deeply encouraging and very positive.
“Carmel intend to bring back this service during the school holidays,” he added.

The always popular lunch packs generally consist of a sandwich (cheese, ham or chicken) or a ham, cheese or tuna mayonnaise salad, a piece of fruit (apple or banana) a packet of crisps, a chocolate bar, a packet of sweets, a yoghurt, and a drink (apple and blackcurrant juice, can of coke, orange juice or water) to wash it all down with.
Yesterday (Wednesday) was the final free lunch service as children go back to school on Monday.
