Volunteers from Edale Mountain Rescue Team have had an incredibly busy time dealing with seven call outs in three days. 

During the early hours of Friday (22 July), the team were called to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service. 

A gentleman that had taken a tumble down a steep embankment at the side of the river near Hope.  

The ambulance crew had treated his injuries but required assistance evacuating him from the location back to their ambulance.  

Later in the day they were called help a young person who had suffered a medical event which meant they were unable to continue their Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition. 

In the early hours of Saturday (23 July), the team were again called to an injured person down a bank this time joining Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue. 

Due to the steepness of the ground and the distance below the road they had fallen, a rope system was established using the fire appliance as an anchor point. The stretcher was then hauled up to the road where the ambulance was waiting.  

Just after 10.30am on Saturday the team were called to help a mountain biker who had crashed somewhere on Derwent Edge, suffering a painful shoulder and upper arm injury. 

The Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance flew the cyclist to Sheffield Northern General Hospital. 

As the team were loading the casualty onto the helicopter, they were called to an injured climber on Froggatt Edge with Buxton MRT called in to provide additional support. The casualty was stretchered to a waiting ambulance. 

The injured climber, who now faces several weeks, and months of surgery and recovery has thanked the teams for all their efforts. 

In an online post he said: “Please accept an absolutely monumental thanks for your efforts in getting my bones mostly where they should be pointing and in getting me to the ambulance. 

Adding: “I've a way to go yet, but the speedy teamwork and centuries (over 200 years) of combined Mountain Rescue experience has given me a brilliant shot at a solid recovery.” 

On Sunday (24 July), the Edale Team were called to help a climber who had suffered multiple serious injuries in a fall at Stanage Edge. Again, the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance was called out. The climber was stabilised and taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital. 

The team were immediate called to another incident this time a member of a walking group had taken a tumble and sustained a painful ankle injury. The casualty was given pain relief and stretchered to a waiting EMAS ambulance. 

They suffered a dislocated ankle and have also taken to social media to thank the mountain rescue volunteers.
