Calls for signs to be put up warning motorists to take extra care have been made after reports of ducks being run over near Howard Park in Glossop. 

There have been reports of a number of incidents this week with three ducks believed to have been killed. 

One resident said: “The signs are desperately needed; the ducks and coots are often on the road in the spring with their ducklings, so it is a year-round problem.  

“What a lot of people don't realise is that down the bank behind the houses is another very large pond so there is always a lot of ducks, geese crossing between the two it's just been more noticeable since the large, Muscovy’s have taken to hanging around, foraging in the gutter opposite the pond.” 

Several others commenting on social media, saying that in addition to the signage reminders of the 30mph limit were needed. 

One said: “The speeding on Dinting Road is a serious danger to pedestrians and wildlife! It needs to be reviewed and improved!” 

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “Putting up warning signs that ducks might be around is something we are happy to consider.  

“A request for new signs such as these can be made directly on our website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/reportit under the Highway Request section. Or email highways.hub@derbyshire.gov.uk  

“Any requests such as this can then be considered by our team.”
