Site of former Shire Hill Hospital up for sale

Plans to redevelop the former Shire Hill Hospital site in Old Glossop look likely to be determined by High Peak Borough Council in November.

The application for the site, which has already been put up for sale by NHS Properties and is being marketed by BNP Paridas Real Estate, was submitted back in 2019 - prompting opposition from the local community.

For sale is a total of 17.2 acres of land as it includes fields as well as the 4.2 acres of previously developed land where the hospital was located.

The proposals are for the former hospital site and are seeking permission for up to 52 properties to be built.

While most of the former hospital building would be demolished the former Administration Building would be retained and converted.

In a statement to the Chronicle, a spokeswoman for High Peak Borough Council told us the council is currently assessing additional information submitted by the developer and the application is likely to go before the Development Control Committee in November.

A second planning application for land nearby, located to the east of Bute Street and Hawkshead Fold, is also still to be determined.

The application for 56 homes and was also submitted in 2019.

High Peak Borough Council say it is currently working with the developer to address a number of issues with the application.

A spokeswoman for HPBC said at the present time they were unable to confirm when the application will be presented to the Development Control Committee.
