An art trail of festive dogs inspired by Raymond Briggs’s The Snowman book and films has raised more than £60,000 for Blythe House Hospice.
Made by Whaley Bridge-based Wild in Art, the 12 fibreglass pups – including Roodle, The Snowbrador and Bark! The Herald Angels Sing - were dotted around Buxton for two months.
Visitors to the town paid £1 for a map with all their locations, while the dogs were auctioned at the Palace Hotel after the parade ended on December 19.
Shane O’Reilly, Blythe House’s CEO said: “The Snowman and The Snowdog is a beautiful story encompassing friendship, joy and magic.
“Many people think of a hospice as a sad place given the nature of the work we do. But, whilst there are difficult times and challenges in coping with loss, there are also lots of happy moments as we focus on what matters most to our patients and families.”
His thoughts were echoed by Wild in Art’s co-founder, Charlie Longhorne: “As a business with a base in High Peak, we wanted to connect with our local community and what better way to do it than through this collaboration with Blythe House Hospice.
“Our events enable thousands of people of all ages to experience art by making it part of everyday life, while offering new ways for people to explore their local area.”
