Spectacular fireworks light up Glossop and help raise charity funds

A fantastic fireworks display lit up the night sky at the popular Glossop and District Round Table's Annual Bonfire held in Manor Park on Saturday (5 November).

The family friendly evening was enjoyed by large crowds who turned out in force to enjoy the event that featured two firework displays, with the first aimed at younger children.

There were also fairground rides, food stalls, entertainment from Centre Stage, Limelight Musical Theatre and Tintwistle Band and a beer tent.

High Peak Mayor Cllr Ollie Cross was among those who attended with his family.

He said: “It was great to see such an excellent turnout and we were pleased to see folk of all ages thoroughly enjoying the festivities last night.

“We particularly enjoyed the impressive performances by Centre Stage Academy of Dance & Fitness, Limelight Musical Theatre and Tintwistle Band."

The mayor added: “Most importantly, lots of money has been raised for numerous local charities, community groups and other good causes once again this year.”

He thanked Glossop and District Round Table for organising a spectacular community occasion and paid tribute to the amazing volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the night was a great success.

Ed Siddall from Glossop Round Table was pleased all the hard work paid off.

“It went really well," he told the Chronicle. "Everyone enjoyed themselves and hopefully raised lots of money for charity. We don’t know how much yet.”

Last year they were able to give out £20,000 to local charities and are hoping for a similar figure this year, although the costs of holding the event have increased.
