A few weeks ago, The Chronicle told the story of Simon Gamewell who travelled from coast to coast to spread positivity and thank health staff for their work.

Simon used his motability scooter to make the journey. 

He called at Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop along the way and staff there found him so inspiring, they decided to join his online community.

He works for a digital forum called TAP (Thank And Praise) which gives people the chance to show gratitude to others.

Reuben’s Retreat fundraiser Stacey Kirkpatrick said: “Simon was so inspiring we decided to use TAP as a way for our service users to express their thanks to staff members. We have a page on their digital forum which we are in the process of setting up.

“Simon did a fabulous job of creating awareness of how important it is to pass on our thanks and how important inspirational messages can be. 

“We are all so proud and privileged to work here. 

“We do what we do to make a difference. 

“We’re not used to being thanked so using TAP means all the team will get the recognition they deserve.”

Staff at Reuben’s Retreat are busy fundraising. 

Their annual ball is taking place on Saturday and plans are in place for Christmas events. These include the Santa Dash in December and there will be a Santa’s Grotto at Lymefield Garden Centre.

Stacey added: “We have to raise around half a million pounds each year to keep this place going, but we enjoy the challenge. 

“But we really couldn’t do it without the support of the local community. As well as donating, they really inspire us to get out there and come up with new fundraising events.”
