Stars of local food scene toast Michelin Guide approval

Two High Peak gastropubs are celebrating their inclusion in this year's edition of the Michelin Guide.

The Pack Horse in Hayfield and Deacon’s Bank in Chapel-en-le-Frith were recognised for their commitment to quality food.

The editors of the prestigious guidebook lauded Deacon’s Bank on Market Street in the centre of Chapel for ‘serving ambitious dishes with a creative edge - such as a deconstructed version of a bouillabaisse’.

They also praised The Pack Horse, which made the cut for a fourth consecutive year, describing its 23-strong team as dishing up ‘hearty pub dishes with a refined edge’.

Head chef and co-owner of The Pack Horse, Luke Payne, told the Chronicle: “Being listed in the Michelin Guide for 2025 means the world.

“It has never been something I've sought after, but to know we make so many people happy coming through the doors and then to receive such recognition from within the industry, it gives a real morale boost to the team.

“The Michelin Guide is such a recognisable sign of quality, and it is testament to our hard-working team and quality suppliers that we have achieved this four years in a row.

“It gives Hayfield such a boost as well, providing a destination dining spot for those travelling further afar to explore the beauty which surrounds us, and also provides a much-needed boost to the local economy - one of our main suppliers being the fantastic Mettrick’s Butchers in Glossop, and Organic North vegetable supplier in Manchester.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Deacon’s Bank – which opened in the summer of 2023 - said on Instagram: “Very grateful to be included in the 2025 Michelin Guide.

“A massive thank you to all the team for the continued hard work as without you all this wouldn’t be possible.

“Big congratulations to all the other restaurants to achieve a place in the guide as well.

“Onwards and upwards for 2025.”
