World-class music is promised as Glossop Music Festival kickstarts its summer programme with ten events in just six days. 

Taking place from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 June, the festival features the Glossop Music Festival Orchestra. 

From Monday to Friday, Glossop Music Festival, in conjunction with Carrot Productions, will be working with primary schools in the Glossop area on a programme of events based around Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, and the David Litchfield book, The Bear and the Piano. 

The full programme of educational events included in-person school visits by musicians in the lead up to the Festival for pre-concert discovery workshops, live Zoom sessions with the illustrator and author, David Litchfield, and culminate in a series of schools’ concerts in St James’ Church, Glossop.

The concerts will feature interactive, costumed performances of Peter and the Wolf and a screening of the animated film of The Bear and the Piano, with live accompaniment from an ensemble of professional players. Schools will receive full resource packs, and an opportunity to achieve Arts Award Discovery status.

On Thursday (16 June), there will be a choral workshop for the local community led by the Hallé choral staff at Glossop Parish Church on Church Street South in Old Glossop from 2pm to 4pm. That's followed by an informal pub concert - a free performance given by some of the Glossop Music Festival musicians - at the Pico Lounge from 8pm. 

On Friday (17 June), there will be two concerts at Glossop Parish Church. The first is a Piano and String Octet with Viv McLean, piano Strauss Sextet, Fauré Piano Quartet and Mendelssohn Octet, with doors opening at 7pm ahead of a 7.30pm start. The second is a late night concert at 10pm featuring the Jazz Trio 'Triology'. 

Then to close on Saturday (18 June), there's a family coffee concert 'Musical Beasts' at St James' Church on Hollincross Lane from 11am to midday. Beforehand, there will be free arts and craft activities as well as refreshments from 10am.

There's also an Evening Orchestral Concert at 7.45pm at Glossop Parish Church - the orchestra will be conducted by Chloé van Soeterstède, with Viv Mclean (piano), Eva Thorarinsdottir (violin) and Hannah Roberts (cello) – Mendelssohn Hebrides, Beethoven Concerto for piano, violin and cello, and Schubert Symphony No. 5.
