On the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Scout Trespass, 300 swimmers used the day to raise the profile of their campaign to improve access for outdoor swimming.
Enthusiasts are calling for more education around being safe around water, rather than a blanket ban on swimming in reservoirs and want the same right to water access as in Scotland.
Swimmers locally have seen success in their efforts at Sparth Reservoir near Marsden where ‘no swimming’ signs have been replaced with safety information.
At Kinder Reservoir men and woman ranging from teenagers to pensioners braved the icy waters, measuring 9.4°C, many carrying posters and a large ‘Right to Swim’ sign was shown.

The campaigners took care to enter the water following the safety information provided by the Outdoor Swimming Society which has over 100,00 members.
The weekend also saw walkers out in force to mark the Kinder Trespass anniversary.
The annual Spirit of Kinder event was held in Hayfield to mark the “Right to Roam” and there were various talks, exhibitions, various stalls, and music.
