Temporary closure for shop illegally selling vapes

A shop accused of selling vapes to under-18s has been forced to close temporarily by South Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court.

Police gave evidence on Thursday (January 23) that Buxton Bargains on Spring Gardens was illegally selling e-cigs to underage youths, and ‘causing disruption to neighbouring businesses and properties’.

Magistrates ordered a temporary closure of the shop - which had prominent signs in its windows advertising vapes and e-liquids - with officers boarding it up until Sunday March 16.

“We know the activities at this business have been a concern for local people,” said PC Nathan Todd.

“This three-month closure will disrupt these activities, which should prompt long-term change and make it clear that the selling of age-restricted products to children will not be tolerated.

“Thank you to the community in Buxton for their support in reporting information to us and supporting our investigation.

“This should also serve as reassurance that if you’re seeing anti-social behaviour in your community, report it to us so we can build intelligence and take action."
