The Bureau shines the spotlight on its dedicated volunteers

Su (left), a volunteer befriender, and Shaun, a volunteer driver, are just two people who give their time to make a real difference at The Bureau.

Local charity The Bureau is celebrating the difference volunteers make to its organisation and thanking them for all their time and dedication during this year's Volunteers' Week.

A UK-wide celebration, Volunteers' Week takes place from 1-7 June every year and is a chance to thank volunteers for the fantastic contribution they make to our communities.

The Bureau is part of the High Peak volunteer alliance, which is made up of Connex Buxton, New Mills Volunteer Centre, and High Peak CVS. In association with Connex Derbyshire Dales, the alliance has produced a set of touching and insightful testimonials from their volunteers.

Based on Henry Street in Glossop, The Bureau says it aims to support people and communities across Glossopdale to take action that improves the quality of life of local people.

During the lockdown, the charity saw 120 people come forward offering to help with telephone calls, and delivery of prescriptions and food items.

The organisation is now getting face-to-face interactions back up and running as safely as possible amid the easing of national restrictions.

Fi Gales, Volunteer Coordinator at The Bureau, commented: “We are enormously proud of our volunteers, and how much they have stepped up during the pandemic. It has been truly heartwarming to see how much of a difference they can make to the community, and the lives of vulnerable individuals in an unprecedented situation. We’re always looking for new volunteers so if you would like to join our team and make a difference in the Glossop community, get in touch!”

Via the Facebook pages of the organisations that are part of the High Peak volunteer alliance, people will be encouraged to try volunteering for the first time and find out how, through volunteering, they can make a difference to a cause they are passionate about.
