Glossop Labour Club will be hosting a performance of 'The Mill Ballads' by North West based folk group Trebuchet on Saturday 1 April.
The performance depicts life in Quarry Bank Mill, now owned by The National Trust, near Wilmslow, but obviously has great interest and relevance in our own mill town of Glossop.
Blurring the borders between folk music, a play, and social history, the Mill Ballads is a unique performance by musical trio Trebuchet and actor Stephen Howe.
Folk group Trebuchet; Keith Carter Harris, Mark Seyler and Steve Mansfield, formed in the early noughties; their use of self penned and traditional songs, are combined with the engaging performance of actor Stephen Howe, bringing to life this important period in our history, in a music theatre production.
The year is 1845 and Joseph Sefton recalls the experiences of his life. While recounting his stories, his thoughts and memories come to life in songs. The Mill Ballads is based on real historical characters and events, which took place in and around Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire during the industrial revolution.
Tickets are £10, available from Glossop Labour Club or George Street Bookshop; or online from The Mill Ballads website https://www.themillballads.com/. Doors open at 7:30pm ahead of the 8pm performance.
