Update on tree felling in the Goyt Valley

Trees already removed from first area in the Goyt Valley.

Work has started to remove trees in the Goyt Valley to prevent the spread of a tree disease.

An infected area of larch trees is currently being cut down.

A spokesman for Forestry England said the main bulk of the work that will mean the closure of the road to Derbyshire Bridge has been slightly delayed.

That work is now expected to get under way in the next few weeks.

In total 44 hectares of infected larch, sweet chestnut and rhododendron. Over the next five years a more diverse mix of trees will be planted to replace those that have to be removed.

The Goyt Valley team have added a short video on their webpage which explains the work that’s happening. You can watch it at https://www.forestryengland.uk/article/tree-felling-goyt-valley-stop-disease
