Vigil held in Glossop to shine a light on refugees and asylum seekers

Last Saturday, members of High Peak Green New Deal and High Peak Stand Up to Racism held a vigil and leafleted shoppers, drawing attention to refugees and asylum seekers.

June 20th is World Refugee Day and throughout this week people are celebrating the contribution of refugees and migrants to this country.

"If you meet a migrant in the NHS they are more likely to be treating you than ahead of you in the queue" said Linda Walker, Co-ordinator of High Peak Green New Deal, she adds: "Britain needs to accept its fair share of refugees, and we need to create safe routes for asylum seekers, so they don't have to risk their lives in small, leaky boats."

There is a display about refugees in the Library and in Dark Peak and George Street Bookshops.
