A Whitfield councillor is thinking about setting up a Community Speed Watch group for the area and is looking for people who are interested in volunteering.
There is already a wider speed watch which covers the whole of Glossopdale but Graham Oakley, who represents Whitfield on High Peak Borough Council, feels his ward would benefit from having its own group.
He said: "We know that some people speed on Whitfield's roads. They are a danger to themselves and everyone else.
"We don't have any speed bumps or build-outs and are unlikely to ever get any. Police speed traps tend to be on major roads only."
With support from local police, Community Speed Watch groups can borrow a kit that consists of a speed gun, signs and yellow jackets.
They can carry out speed checks and offenders are sent warning letters, while persistent offenders can face further action.
Volunteers would need to have an online training session, lasting around an hour, and would receive guidance booklets.
