Glossop Heritage Trust director Tony Wright is taking a walk through part of the town that is steeped in history and everyone's invited.
What he is calling a ‘stroll along the Turnpike’, is on Monday, August 23 and begins at 6.45pm at Corn Street, where the walk and talk starts with the history of the corn mill which once stood there.
Tony said: “We will then have a walk west to view Easton House, obviously we can’t go in, then reverse up to the ‘Turn’ and talk about the Snake, the silk mill, the Commercial (pub) and the Co-op opposite.”
The walk continues up Manor Park Road, which was once called Hall Street, to view the now converted Tabernacle Chapel and Sunday School.
Tony says there will be a mention of Old Glossop Cricket Club and its long time secretary the late Derek Slack and will finish at the main entrance to Manor Park.
Throughout the guided tour Tony will talk about the area’s rich history.
He said: “Parking is available at people’s own risk in the Corn Street car park for Manor Park. People can walk through the park back to their cars and I hope to finish by 8pm. It’s free and all are welcome.”
