Walker reported missing on moors gets to safety

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team's dedicated volunteers weren't required to rescue a man who had been reported missing somewhere on Bleaklow Moor in the end.

The team were called out just after 8pm on Wednesday evening (9 December) to assist the walker, who had been dropped off in the Derwent Valley at around 8am that morning.

Just as Glossop, Woodhead, Edale and and four dogs from SARDA Peak were being deployed, information came in to say that the man had been picked up by a passing truck near to Dunford Bridge on the A628, and taken to Tintwistle, where he then made the call to say he was safe, well and off the hill.

The team were stood down at 8.35pm.

Meanwhile, GMRT - which receives no direct government funding - is continuing to appeal for donations to help ensure its volunteers can continue to turn out day and night to rescue people in wild and remote places.
