Members of local group Warm Homes Whitfield took part in a national day of action against fuel poverty on Saturday.
They were out in Norfolk Square in Glossop talking to shoppers about the cost of living crisis and soaring fuel bills.
To make a point about the struggle to keep warm, the group brought a small electric fire and an armchair with lots of blankets and a hot water bottle down to the square.
Wrapped up in the chair, Karen Smith said: "The government urgently needs to invest in a mass insulation programme, which would cut our fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions. They could fund this with a much bigger windfall tax on the oil and gas giants who are making a fortune, while so many people are frightened to put their heating on as they know they can't cope with the bills."
The group's next event will be a 'Winter Warmer' at Pure Vibes in Whitfield on Sunday 18 December between 1pm and 5pm. Everyone is welcome to drop in for a hot drink, a mince pie and a chat about fuel bills and the struggle to keep warm.
