Warning to motorists about Broadbottom bridge closure

Motorists are being warned that a bridge which connects Broadbottom and Charlesworth will be closed this weekend.

Tameside Council say that Lower Market Street will be closed at Besthill Bridge on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March whilst its Highways team carry out work to amend the bridge structure to prevent large vehicles from getting stuck.

It's understood that the footpath next to the bridge will still be accessible for pedestrians.

Drivers are asked to follow the diversion route which will be signposted.

It's part of works on the site which started on 14 February and are expected to last until 27 March.

The council has apologised for any inconvenience the works may cause.

The 341 bus will be diverted as a result and delays to services are likely.

After calling around Gamesley, the bus will run via the A57 through Woolley Bridge before returning to the regular route at Ashworth Lane. The diversion means the service will not serve Glossop Road (beyond Gamesley), Charlesworth, Long Lane, Market Street in Broadbottom, Mottram Road and Broadbottom Road.
