A High Peak town will be under a police dispersal order this week after a series of complaints over anti-social behaviour.
The temporary restrictions mean officers can move people on from Glossop town centre - from the bottom of Market Street West to the top end of Manor Park – if they are involved in anti-social behaviour.
The extra powers also allow police to take action on those they suspect are likely to “cause a nuisance to someone else”.
Anybody who refuses to comply may be arrested and potentially face a fine of up to £2,500 or receive a three-month prison sentence.
The dispersal order runs between 3pm on Monday February 24 until 23:59pm on Thursday February 27.
Assistant Sergeant Mike Small of the Glossop Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The dispersal order gives us additional powers to deal with anti-social behaviour proactively, so we can prevent individuals disrupting the wider community.
“It is not about making Glossop a no-go area for all people, just those who are not behaving sensibly, causing damage and distress for other community members.
“We simply cannot tolerate anti-social behaviour.”
Glossop saw a similar dispersal order in November 2024 ahead of the town’s Christmas Lights switch on, which was ultimately a wash-out due to Storm Bert.
