Weather backlog forces suspension of green-lidded bin collections

Collections of green-lidded bins have been suspended in High Peak until Monday January 20 due to the wintry weather conditions.

Ice, snow and floods have affected travel throughout the borough since the turn of the year, with bin lorries struggling to beat the elements.

“The ongoing wintry weather continues to have a serious impact on waste and recycling collections,” said a statement from High Peak Borough Council.

“Road conditions are being assessed daily, and we have taken the decision to suspend green-lidded bin collections until Monday 20 January 2025 so crews can focus on the backlog.

“Crews are working hard to manage this situation whilst ensuring safety first for all operations and other users of the roads, but the sub-zero temperatures forecast this week may mean it is some time before collections return to normal.

“Please leave your bins out and thank you for your patience during this challenging weather.”

Schedules for black and brown bin collections, as well as those for red textile sacks remain unchanged.
