Weekly 'strikes' planned in Glossop over climate change

Women across Glossopdale will be joining others across the world to 'strike' for two hours every Friday.

They are calling for immediate action to tackle climate change.

A spokesperson for Glossop Women's Climate Strike said: "Globally, women are most affected by, but least responsible for the climate emergency. Fires are raging around the world, communities are flooding, the next generation are inheriting a dying planet. We demand an end to pollution, divestment from fossil fuels, and viable alternatives for the people of Glossop, and for planet Earth.”

Their first demonstration will be on High Street West close to the petrol station at Tesco on Friday 20 August and then every Friday. They’ll be there from 8am – 10am weekly.

A spokesperson added: "We will be there every Friday during the morning rush hour until our demands are met for a cleaner, greener Glossop and world. We invite all women to join in, it doesn't matter if you are not in paid work and so cannot 'strike' in the traditional sense - unpaid and domestic work counts, and the main thing is that we stand together to demand action. Accompanied children are welcome."

People planning to attend are asked to bring placards.
