The Beehive in the Whitfield area of Glossop has been given the go ahead to keep a decking area to the rear of the pub.
High Peak's Development Control Committee unanimously approved its retention at their meeting on Monday (13 December).
Licensee John Kennedy told the committee the deck was created last year when the Covid pandemic first hit and there was a need to give people more space.
However, the development has split opinion locally with public comments received from eight addresses - with three objecting, three giving their support and two having a neutral position.
Concerns included the noise from people using the area however the planners explained that even if the deck was refused the pub would still be able to use the area to put out chairs and tables.
Whitfield borough councillor Graham Oakley, moving approval, said he hoped the pub would continue to work with Environmental Health and the licencing committee to resolve any remaining issues.
Seconding approval, Cllr Stewart Young said: “They have done a very good job with what they have built outside.”
