Work could start soon on projects at Mottram Parish Church, thanks to a bequest from its former honorary curate.
Rev Dr Richard Hills MBE, who died in May 2019 at the age of 82, served and supported the church he loved for a great number of years.
Now his involvement at the War Hill church will be permanently remembered in the fabric of the building.
Describing Dr Hills' legacy as 'generous', the church's Tony Kershaw said the first project financed from the bequest would be a new path across the churchyard.
He hopes work will start in the spring. It is expected to carry a reference in Dr Hills' memory.
Other projects benefiting from the bequest will be:
- Urgent repairs to the tower and bell frame
- A new more effective and eco-friendly heating system
- A children and families' missioner
To maximise the benefit of the legacy, the church will be applying for match funding grants.
Mr Kershaw said the entire bequest would be spent on these projects and would not be used for other church needs.
Dr Hills, who lived in Mottram, was also the founder of Manchester Science and Industry Museum.
