Work starts on new community space in Dinting

The first phase of bringing long-awaited and additional new community facilities to Dinting Vale and Holy Trinity Church is now under way.

It follows a successful bid from local firm Restoration Projects Ltd of Hadfield and is the first step towards creating a multi-use meeting place in the church for everyone to enjoy.

The installation of a fully accessible disabled toilet to the church building - which currently has no toilet - and bespoke kitchen facilities, will help create that much-needed community space. 

Vicar at Holy Trinity, the Rev Nick Gurney said: “Having had a bid from a local firm who specialise in construction and project management for conservation, restoration and in particular refurbishment of historic properties, and keen to work on a local project for the community, and at such a competitive price, was an answer to prayer.”

With works due to be completed by mid-April it offers some welcome good news as people look towards the ‘new normal’ after lockdown.

Rev Nick added: “As we all begin to emerge out of lockdown I’m so looking forward to all that this might bring. 

“Not only in being able to enhance the existing services and restarting of popular local events such as ‘Scones of Praise’ and the ‘Soup Service’ and our ongoing collaboration with Dinting School next door, but the new opportunities it could bring to the community as a meeting place for clubs, groups, and people in a variety of ways. 

“To have had the local interest from the beginning, starting with MRA Architects who designed the project with us; Cllr Jean Wharmby giving an early donation towards kitchen goods; toilet suite from Joe Barber’s Plumbers; to now having Restoration Projects commencing the works is really exciting and gives me hope that this will become a place where community can flourish.

“There is still more to do in being able to create the meeting room space and other works, but phase one is a major milestone on the roadmap forward which all are invited to journey alongside.”
