Wray Engineering Donates Sleds to Glossop Mountain Rescue Team

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team

The sleds will help the team's ability to perform rescues in deep, soft snow.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team (GMRT) has expressed thanks to Wrays Engineering for their donation of two lightweight aluminium sleds designed for stretchers, provided completely free of charge. The sleds will help the team's ability to perform rescues in deep, soft snow.

Winter rescues in the Peak District can be particularly challenging, with rescuers carrying stretchers through snow which can be heavy and slow work. Thanks to Wray Engineering, the new sleds can now be attached to stretchers, allowing them to glide smoothly over even the deepest snow. Equipped with ropes at the front and back, the sleds make it much easier to transport casualties quickly to safety.

GMRT plans to begin training with the sleds as soon as the snow falls.

Wray Engineering

Wray Engineering, a family-owned business established in 1982 by Stanley, Mike, and John Wray, has a long history of serving its community with precision engineering. Now led by third-generation family members James and Charlie, the company continues to build on its legacy. The sleds were expertly fabricated by Gary Chatterton, who has dedicated 27 years to the company.

In their announcement on Facebook, the team said "Many thanks to James, Charlie, and Gary for this fantastic addition to the team’s rescue equipment".

The Lifesaving Work of Glossop Mountain Rescue

The GMRT is a volunteer led organisation dedicated to saving lives in the hills surrounding Glossop. Operating year round, the team responds to emergencies from injured walkers and climbers to missing persons. Their work often takes place in extreme weather conditions, so equipment like the donated sleds is vital.

The team relies entirely on donations and the goodwill of the community to fund their operations.

For those who wish to support the work of the GMRT, visit their website or follow their social media channels.
