You can now browse the shelves at Glossop Library

People using Glossop Library can now just turn up and no longer need to book an appointment.

From Monday (24 August), the library on Talbot Street has returned to allow customers to browse - but the number of people that can enter at any one time will be limited and monitored by staff. Computers, however, must still be booked.

The library closed back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and reopened on 3 August - initially operating an appointment only system for book borrowing and computer use.

Anyone who visits the library will be asked to leave their details as part of the test and trace programme and everyone using the library will be asked to wear a face covering, as they would in a shop, unless they are exempt.

People will initially be given a 15-minute slot to browse and pick the books they want to borrow, but this could be longer if the library isn't busy.

Once the library has reached capacity, customers will be asked to wait outside.

In total, 14 libraries across Derbyshire are currently open as part of Derbyshire County Council's phased approach to reopening all 45 of its libraries. These are Glossop, Buxton, Ashbourne, Ilkeston, Ripley, Alfreton, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Belper, Dronfield, Heanor, Long Eaton, Matlock and Swadlincote.

All re-opened libraries currently have the same opening hours - 10am-4pm Monday to Friday, and 10am-2pm on Saturdays until further notice.

The county council has also confirmed that Chapel-en-le-Frith Library in Market Square will reopen on 7 September, New Mills Library on Hall Street will open its doors on 14 September, Hayfield and Whaley Bridge libraries will reopen on 21 September, and Gamesley and Hadfield libraries will reopen on 28 September.
