Young boy from Glossop raises £2000 for Glossop Cat Rescue

A young boy from Glossop has raised a substantial amount of money for Glossop Cat Rescue. Harley Elliot, 7, has raised £2000 for the rescue centre, through a charity run he took part in last Thursday.

He ran around both the Bottoms and Valehouse reservoirs in Tintwistle, one after the other, in just 39 minutes, despite estimating the run would take him over an hour. Harley said he found the 8K run, “Quite easy”.

The idea for the fundraiser came when Harley began to foster a group of kittens from Glossop Cat Rescue, a few months ago. Harley said, “Glossop Cat Rescue have given us everything we need to look after them and I want to give them some money back, so they can help some more kittens with things like vet bills, fun toys for the cats, food & litter and for anything they may need.

“I have chosen this charity because for them to keep doing a brilliant job they need more money.

“We went to collect some food and litter for our kittens, and while I was there two new litters of cats had arrived as well as an injured cat, the lady was so nice helping the cats and I decided I wanted to help too.”

Harley’s original target was to raise a modest £100, £50 per reservoir, but this target was reached within minutes of the JustGiving page going live, and currently stands at over £2000, an amazing amount of money that will help Glossop Cat Rescue immensely.

Harley’s mum, Chloe, said, “We’re all so proud of him, nobody expected him to raise so much.

“We decided a run would be the best thing to do in the end as he didn’t fancy some of our other ideas, we suggested a sponsored silence, but he wasn’t having any of it!”

“We didn’t expect him to show so much determination, he doesn’t even enjoy walking around the reservoirs usually, never mind running!”

Julie, from Glossop Cat Rescue, was keen to thank Harley for everything he has done for them, “We are just so thankful, we can’t believe how much he has managed to raise, it is such a thoughtful thing to do and it will help us out so much.”
