Young Glossop family stars in CBeebies series

A Glossop family is lighting up the small screen after taking part in a popular CBeebies children's series.

During the lockdown last August, CBeebies were on the look-out for new families to film the next season of their children’s TV programme ‘Our Family’.

The programme follows the lives of different families, spending time with them at home and out and about during their daily activities.

Mel and Adam Pickup from Shirebrook thought their boys, George, seven, and Freddie, five, would be perfect, so applied for the programme.

After months of auditions, face time meetings with producers, and a visit to the house by the director, they were chosen to be one of this season’s featured families.

Between September 2020 and April 2021, CBeebies spent five weekends with the family to create the five episodes.

Each episode features the family enjoying different activities, from baking, face painting, obstacle courses, adventures in the forest, pirate games in rowing boats and many more.

One of the episodes shows them going to Glossop Tennis Club at Pyegrove. George has been a member at the club for the last few years and has enjoyed weekly lessons, so when CBeebies asked the family for some ideas of what they could film they thought it would be a good idea to spend some time at the tennis club.

Mum Mel said: “George loves his tennis and Freddie had started lessons shortly before lockdown too.

“The boys had a great morning filming at the club even getting me and Adam involved in the games too and the club was more than happy to oblige to having a film crew there for the day.”

You can watch George and Freddie on CBeebies via BBC iPlayer - search for season five of Our Family with George and Freddie.

The tennis club has started lessons again, so if you want to learn how to play just like George and Freddie get in touch by contacting the head coach Nigel Hunter on nigel@wedotennis.co.uk, calling 07810308283 or the chairman Marcus Gill on glossoptennis.chairman@gmail.com or call 079472 75147.
