59-year-old man dies in car collision in Oldham

Officers are appealing for information after a man sadly died following a road traffic collision involving two cars on Park Road at the junction with the entrance to the Alexandra Retail Park.

One vehicle was believed to be travelling southeast along Park Road, while another was travelling in the opposite direction and waiting to turn into the retail park.

As one travelled through the junction, the two vehicles collided, causing one of the vehicles to collide with two people on a pedestrian refuge island.

Sadly, one of the pedestrians, aged 59, suffered fatal injuries. Another man, also aged 59, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.

Two drivers – a man and a woman, aged 32 and 36 respectively - have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both remain in custody for questioning.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
