A man has been jailed for theft and criminal damage offences after officers found him hiding in a bin following a burglary in Oldham.
Lee Ullah, 47, of no fixed abode, was jailed for three years and nine months at Manchester's Minshull Street Court on Tuesday (15 February) after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary and criminal damage.
Officers were originally called to reports of a burglary at Robinson Street, Chadderton, on 25 November 2021 when a woman woke at 6am to find Ullah inside her house.
She noticed the television missing and when she challenged Ullah, he fled wearing her coat. Officers later arrested him after they found him hiding in a bin still wearing the woman's coat.
Ullah was also charged with a commercial burglary on Yorkshire Street on 7 July 2021, when damage estimated at £10,000 was caused and property valued at £10,000 stolen.
Following an investigation, Ullah was also found to have tried to sell one of the stolen items at a local shop.
Also on 25 November 2021, Ullah attempted to burgle a house on Whitstable Close, Chadderton, causing another £10,000 of damage by smashing a large hole in the roof before climbing through it.
The investigation and subsequent charges were carried out by GMP's Oldham Divisional Crime Team.
