Oldham’s European Islamic Centre is inviting members of the non-Muslim community to a communal iftar dinner.
Organisers at the Manchester Road venue have a long tradition of welcoming people from all backgrounds to the centre and this year is no exception.
With Ramadan expected to begin tomorrow (Saturday, March 1), the European Islamic Centre (EIC) hope to give members of the wider community an engaging insight into the life of a Muslim and how they fast throughout the month.
The invitation is also aimed at promoting greater understanding of the Muslim faith and the role of the mosque in the community.
The visit comprises a tour of the building, a look at the communal preparations for the iftar as well as a short presentation followed by full meal and networking.
Sajad Hussain, co-ordinator at the mosque, said: “This event has attracted over a 100 guests in the past. We have been hosting the iftar dinner for five years now and it has been a great success.
“We have invited members from schools, NHS, fire brigade and anyone who wants to pop along can enjoy a truly magnificent experience.”
The tour and dinner will be held on Sunday, March 9 at 5pm and Saturday, March 22 at 5pm. The gathering will be concluded at around 7:30pm.
The EIC has a rich tradition in providing services for the whole community and regularly holds open days, health events, activities for the youth, food hub helping those in need and much more.
The open-minded approach of its members makes a major contribution in fostering interfaith and intercultural understanding in the local community.
Parking is available on Fowler Street, close to the main entrance at the front of the building, alternatively cars can be parked in the main car park on Hawksley Street.
