Conmen trick elderly man to steal £2,000 from his home

Three conmen stole £2,000 from an elderly man in Chadderton, after telling him there had been a flood next door.

It happened at around 6.30pm last Thursday evening (14 January).

Greater Manchester Police say three white men with Irish accents approached the 83-year-old man's home in South Chadderton and, after falsely telling him a neighbour's property had flooded, made their way into the house.

They went upstairs and took the pensioner's wallet, containing more than £2,000. The trio then fled, walking off towards Turf Lane.

Police are reminding people to be alert and report any suspicious incidents to them.

A post on the GMP Royton and Shaw Facebook page said: "The Neighbourhood Teams in Oldham where appalled to read this incident on our morning briefing and wanted to make you all aware.

"Unfortunately these unscrupulous individuals may appear convincing and can be very persuasive, be alert and report anything suspicious by ringing 101 or 999 if you feel threatened or a crime is in progress.

"If you are in any doubt please keep them out."
