Councillors welcome funding boost

Conservative councillors in Oldham have welcomed the Government's announcement of increased funding per pupil for schools. 

The Department of Education has said how much money is being allocated to schools and local authorities in England next year, with every school set to receive more money for every child. 

Every secondary school will receive a minimum of £5,000 per pupil and every primary school will be able to receive a minimum of £4,000 from 2021/22, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has said. 

Tory councillors in the borough feel this will give schools more certainty over their budgets and welcome the funding increase. 

Cllr Pam Byrne, who is a school governor, said: "Our schools do a brilliant job. Parents and teachers should know that the Conservatives have listened to them and are investing in our children’s futures. What has been announced is the biggest funding boost for schools in a decade which will give every school more money, for every child." 

Saddleworth Parish Councillor, Max Woodvine, who is training to be a teacher and has done extensive voluntary work in a local school, added: “We recognise the pressures schools have faced but we want parents to be safe in the knowledge that all children can get the best education they deserve in classrooms across our Borough and the country.

"The continuing investment of the Conservative government in education, coupled with a bold reform agenda and the work of Ofsted will supercharge the ongoing rise in school standards."
