Detailed plans for £7m housing development lodged

Detailed plans for a £7 million contentious housing development in Oldham have been lodged with the town hall.

A planning application for 23, three and four-bedroom detached homes in Moorside has been submitted.

The proposals for the land on Haven Lane had been rejected by the planning committee in 2016, but that decision was later overturned by the planning inspectorate.

That hit the council in the pocket to the tune of £35,000 after the inspector said costs should be awarded for ‘unreasonable behaviour’ by the authority.

Full planning permission was granted for the scheme at a later meeting in June 2019.

The development is being led by Cube Homes, the private sector arm of the Great Places Housing Group, who are a housing association in the north west.

They have now submitted a new reserved matters application which seeks final approval for the design of the new estate to allow work to commence.

The developer describes them as ‘stylish’ homes which take advantage of the location to offer ‘stunning views’ over the town and countryside.

Cube Homes says the plan includes landscaping and improving the surface water situation from the surrounding land and better managing the surface water on the site to improve and complement the neighbouring area.

Chris Heath, managing director of Cube Homes, said: “The development of the land will be a win-win for Oldham as it will bring much-needed housing to the area, while breathing new life into a vacant site for the betterment of the surrounding area.

“We have worked hard with the local authority to ensure that the development will enhance this part of Moorside and create a positive contribution to the town.

“We look forward to being able to bring some fantastic new homes to Oldham as we have done across other parts of Greater Manchester.”

A decision on the plans will be made after June 11, according to the planning portal.
