It's seventh heaven as Tameside and Oldham charity celebrates its anniversary in style

An Oldham and Tameside-based charity recently celebrated their seventh anniversary in style.

Ambitions primarily focus on organising social activities for young adults with learning and physical disabilities.

The group was originally set up in Oldham and expanded into Tameside seven years ago. They hold discos at the Old Fire Station Pub in Ashton-Under-Lyne every Tuesday evening 6-9pm.

Every week the discos create an atmosphere where people with additional needs can socialise and relax with their carers, families or friends in a safe friendly environment.

Their first Tameside disco started off with 23 new members and they now have over 100 members attending weekly.

An extra special disco was held at the pub last Tuesday (October 10), with a free buffet available, a magician, a selfie mirror and live entertainment provided by PJ Robinson.

Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Tafheen Sharif also made an appearance to support the organisation.

Stephanie and Jonathan Griffiths-Barnes, chairpeople of the charity, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the fantastic members, carers, parents and especially all of the wonderful volunteers, without whom there would be no ambitions.

"We also add a massive thank you to our other two committee members, James Procter (secretary) and Jonathan Hinsley (treasurer), and our wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front line. Everyone is such a credit to the organisation."

They also wanted to extend their thanks to the landlady Sarah and landlord Barry at The Old Fire Station pub who they said have been 'fantastic' with them.
