Oldham’s historic Coliseum theatre has been saved and is officially due to reopen in time for the 2025 pantomime season.
The incredible news was revealed amid street party scenes around the theatre last Monday.
The iconic venue, which has been the cultural cornerstone of Oldham since its opening in 1885, had closed in March last year after it lost £1.8 million pounds in Arts Council Funding.
But following a passionate campaign people power has won the day.

The effort to save the theatre has been fronted by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh from Broadbottom - famous of course for playing Hayley in Coronation Street - and her husband, actor and screen writer Ian Kershaw - with the campaign winning over Oldham Council.
“Oldham Council has listened to local people,” said Oldham Council Leader Councillor Arooj Shah. "I can now reveal that we will bring the Coliseum back to life in time for the Christmas Panto 2025.
