Key Saddleworth road set for improvement works

Motorists are being warned to expect delays when roadworks on a main road in Saddleworth begin.

Carriage improvement works will be taking place on A635 Holmfirth Road. 

They are due to start on Monday, February 10, and expected to last for eight days. 

Oldham Council say the works are programmed to be carried out over multiple shifts, utilising the full 24 hour window each day, with the aim of keeping disruption and duration to a minimum. 

The authority said in a statement: "Given that road widths are tight along this stretch, the works will be carried out with both a road closure for Holmfirth bound traffic and under lane closures for Oldham bound traffic, but with the traffic being convoyed through by a traffic management vehicle, ensuring speeds are kept to 10mph through the live site.

"This is the safest possible way to carry out the works, as a road closure isn’t possible due to the length of the diversion and the possible impact on the motorway network. Working this way is likely to cause delays, which in this instance are unavoidable." 

Signs have been erected at either end of the works and also on major routes leading to the Denshaw Cross Roads and letters will be sent out to affected properties. 

The council say, as with any resurfacing works, access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.
