Lorry crashes into Dobcross cottage and memorial

Emergency services are in attendance after a lorry ploughed into a cottage in the centre of the Saddleworth village.

It crashed into the side of the building in The Square at around 11:30am this morning (Tuesday).

Police, ambulance crews and firefighters attended the scene, where the vehicle had smashed into a memorial in the centre of the square and no-one is thought to be injured.

A spokesman for GMFRS said: "We were called just before 11.30am to The Square, Dobcross, to a HGV going into a house.

"It collided with a low wall. Nobody is trapped."

Police said that one person - thought to be the driver of the lorry - is "conscious and breathing".
