Man arrested after police use stinger to intercept stolen vehicle

A man has been arrested as police recovered a vehicle which was stolen in the Grotton area of Saddleworth within 30 minutes of it being taken.

At around 10.50pm on Saturday night (26 February), Greater Manchester Police received a report of the theft of a motor vehicle from a property on Old Kiln Lane. 

Officers were deployed and, within minutes of the call, located the vehicle and requested the deployment of GMP's Tactical Vehicle Interception Unit.

The vehicle was stopped using a stinger and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. He remains in custody for questioning.

Inspector Sue Chadwick, of GMP's Oldham district, said: "First and foremost, I am pleased that we are able to reunite the victim with their vehicle and have arrested a suspect.

"This is an excellent example by the officer involved of team work to bring the incident to a quick, safe and, ultimately, positive conclusion.

"I hope this incident builds public trust and confidence surrounding GMP's response to incidents like this and commitment to fighting crime whilst delivering outstanding service."
