Oldham ended their season in disappointing fashion as Northampton ran riot in a 5-2 victory.
EFL League Two
Oldham Athletic 2-5 Northampton Town
Oldham were hit for five on the last day of the season as the Cobblers put in a fine display to run out 5-2 winners at Boundary Park.
It was a day to forget for Pete Wild's side, who ended their first campaign in League Two with a terrible performance that left lots to be desired.
Latics took the lead in the 11th minute through Johan Branger's 16-yard effort. However, Northampton hit back with a vengeance and were 2-1 up by the half hour mark. Sam Hoskins fired home from 20 yards to level matters in the 22nd minute, before Aaron Pierre headed home powerfully to give the Cobblers the lead in the 29th minute.
The hosts found themselves 3-1 behind on the stroke of half-time when Andy Williams converted from close range after Daniel Powell hit the woodwork.
Oldham's afternoon turned from bad to worse in the opening stages of the second-half, as Williams grabbed his second and Northampton's fourth after finishing neatly from a few yards out.
Latics were in desperate need of restoring some order and were given a lifeline in the 64th minute. After Branger's effort hit the bar, Callum Lang reacted first and poked home to reduce the deficit.
However, any hopes of a fight back were laid to rest in the 80th minute when substitute Junior Morias rounded off a great day for the Cobblers by adding a fifth.
Oldham finished their season in 14th spot on 62 points, while Northampton were just one place and one point below them.
In the wake of the defeat, Oldham held their annual End of Season Awards Dinner at the Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester.
